Dr. Jan Fitzgerald-SoapesJan Fitzgerald-Soapes, MD, FAAP

Dr. Jan Fitzgerald-Soapes co-founded Children's Medicine with one partner in 1977. She continued her work in the Atlanta area as the practice has grown, taken on new partners and opened new offices. Dr. Soapes received her M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia in 1973 and completed her residency at New York University/ Bellevue in 1976. She is Board Certified in pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Soapes is active in her profession and the community. Currently, she serves on the Physician Advisory Council of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and is a board member of the Pediatric Foundation of Georgia. She has served on numerous other boards, committees and universities faculties throughout her career. In 1996, she was elected as the first women President of the Georgia Academy of Pediatrics. In 2001, Dr. Soapes was honored as an Atlanta Woman of Distinction by the Colitis and Crohn's Foundation. In addition to these activities, she has served on five medical missions to African nations and continues her volunteer missions in Georgia and abroad. Dr. Soapes is the widow of James Gray Soapes, the mother of two sons, step-mother of two sons and grandmother of eight grandchildren and step-grandchildren. She enjoys outdoor activities, reading and travel.
